16 Horsepower - Coal Black Horse
i was recently digging up info on bitchen canadian outfit frog eyes and came across an unfamiliar comparison - to a 90's era band from denver. a quick listen turned up some excellent alt-country along the dark lines of emmy lou harris and with the dissonant swooping sounds of geraldine fibbers.
after several releases in the 90's, a break from recording around the turn of the century followed by two albums this decade, the band has since called it quits. i don't venture much into the alt-country realm any more, so i'm not sure if this is one of those eternally underground bands that everyone already knows and worships or if this is some regional band from the recent past that is rarely heard outside it's own circle...
