The Korgiss - Everybodys Got To Learn Sometime
The Kinks - Rock 'N Roll Fantasy
the korgis track is a favorite of jon brion's. i've heard him cover this track countless time in probably a half dozen generas, so it made sense that he included it on the soundtrack to Eternal Sunshine. i thought the beck version was a nice recording but seemed ... too self assured. it lacked the sense of doubt that seems to drive this song, until a couple years ago, i'd never heard the original recording. it's a legitimate chart hit from the Korgis second LP Dumb Waiters (1980). it's kind of an odd sound. detatched and spacey in a "hi-fi for the era" kind of way. like a karaoke prom on mars. or like Supertramp on downers. if you haven't seen jon brion take this number on, i highly recommned it.
The kinks track is a song that was pretty much written for me and people like me. perhaps people like you. it originally appears on 1978's album Misfits (arista records) but i only have it from a compliation (Come Dancing With The Kinks). it's a great companion piece to The Korgis track and i really only posted it to satisfy my own mix tape madness - the tracks are meant to be listened to in the order posted.
