Friday Lovin' :: Birthday Wishes And Chromeo Dreams

Daryl Hall And John Oates - Miss DJ
Chromeo - Woman Friend

tonight is The B's birthday, and the descent into madness starts at 8. so here's a couple tracks to build up a head of steam for the inevitable dance floor. the first one is a track from Do It For Love (feb 11, 2003) - the second or third comeback attempt from the musical equivalent of peanut butter and chocolate (two great tastes that taste great together): Daryl Hall And John Oates. There's some sweet little guitar loops mixed in with some flattened out snazzy drum kicks and that unmistakable vocal swagger of daryl hall's pristine white-boy soul.

as with the krogis/kinks posting from last week, i'm also throwing down the follower for this phantom mix tape (since tonight we're going to paaaar-tay - i'm talking all my sister and me). The follower is Woman Friend from Chromeo's synth-pop dynamo She's In Control (feb 3, 2004).

a few drinks and a wide open dance floor tonight could leave me asking myself, just like daryl at the end of Miss DJ, "Did I Get Too Funky?"

The M's

The M's - Never Do This Again
The M's second LP Future Woman (polyvinyl) hit stores yesterday and warrants a few listens.

few songs could meet the hook ladden mark set by the lead-off track Plan Of The Man, but there's still plenty of solid material to be found on this record. the drums are nice and loose and the tracks are loaded with guitars, horn riffs, and the necessary clap tracks. the end result bears a resemblance to philly's The Capitol Years. The M's label, Polyvinyl, features acts like mates of state, of montreal, and matt pond PA, which sould give you some idea of what to expect form this act. Polyvinyl is also the home of 31 Knots, which is a band i flat out love and can't talk about enough. see - i just did again.

preliminary birthday wishes

Clearlake - I Want To Live In A Dream (Remix)

this is a repost of a track i believe i got off the insound.com download page back on Feb 3rd. it seems like one of the more appropriate new-ish tracks to go with today's write-up. "credit where its due" and all .... anyway, on with the posting:

march and the days just before it are a madhouse of birthdays for too many people in my life, myself included. so as we're about to kick it off this friday with bezonka-zonk's march pre-party, here's some birthday wishes to those of you/us with cause to celebrate this month - anniversaries, birthday's, academy awards... you know, whatever.

cheers to you guys.
